Sagar-Runi Murder Case
The police are yet to find proof of involvement of any newsperson in the killing of journalist couple Golam Mustafa Sarwar, alias Sagar Sarwar, and Meherun Nahar, alias Meherun Runi, a police officer said on Tuesday. The two were found dead in their rented flat on the fourth floor of Shahjalal Rashid Lodge at West Rajabazar in the capital on February 11. The police officer made the comment when newsmen drew his attention to a report published in some dailies that six persons have been arrested and that investigators suspect involvement of more than one journalist in the twin murder.
“We have not arrested or detained any journalist or even interrogated any media man in connection with the murders,” said Imam Hossain, Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The police have not come across any evidence yet to indicate the involvement any media person. He, however, said the police are not aware whether other agencies like the Criminal Investigation Department, Detective Branch or the Rapid Action Battalion have arrested or interrogated any journalist.
