JU goes on 40-day vacation from May 28
Jahangirnagar University (JU) is going to a 40-day vacation from May 28 on the occasion of summer holiday, holy Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr which will continue till July 6. JU Deputy Registrar (Education-1) Mohammed Ali confirmed it through a press release on Wednesday.  All classes will remain suspended during the vacations while the administrative activities will be suspended from May 28 to June 1 due to summer holidays. But, the departments will able to take exams subject to their necessities during these holidays, Deputy Registrar Mohammed Ali said.  When asked about the dormitory vacant, he said, ‘No decision have been taken yet whether the dormitories will be vacant or not. We will take decision later in this regard’. Mentionable, through the registrar office says, vacation starts from May 28, but the university becomes closure from tomorrow for official holidays May 26 and 27.  Apart from, the university will resume on July 9 due to official holidays on July 7 and 8.


Online short course for foreign university at BRACU
BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL) of BRAC University conducted an online short course on ICT Integration into Education for the faculty members of a prominent university in Kazakhstan named Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, says s press release.
The closing session of the course took place recently at the university where the faculty members of BRAC University listened to the reflections of the participants from Kazakhstan on their learning. Md Shams Ud Duha, Lecturer of BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), conducted the online sessions as the lead facilitator and Hamim Al Ahsan, Education Technology Specialist of BRAC University, was the co-facilitator.
 The course consisted of seven sessions which covered the history and importance of information and communication technology, use of google docs in collaborative learning, use of blogs in education, Wikis and Wikipedia, use of podcasts and use of moodle.  Saulet Alpysbayeva, one of the participants of the course and a faculty member of the Kazakh University, mentioned about the effectiveness of the course. She said it was practice-based which was enhanced with the help of theory. This enabled participants to collaborate by sharing the current experience and expertise.  
Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, Director, BRAC Institute of Languages, opined it is high time we promoted our expertise to other countries as interaction can take place online and it can happen anywhere anytime. She also emphasized on capitalizing on the opportunities and expanding the horizon.  The institute will conduct a similar short course with a state university in Azerbaijan soon.
