Nazrul Academy celebrating poet’s birth anniv thru 4-day festival

Nazrul Academy has organised a four-day festival at the Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to mark the 117th birth anniversary of National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam as well as the 45th founding anniversary of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, both to be observed today.
Noted singer Syed Abdul Hadi inaugurated the festival yesterday, where he was bestowed with this year’s Nazrul Academy award for his contributions in the music scene. Presided over by cultural personality Mustafa Jaman Abbasi, the programme included a discussion session attended by the poet’s granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi, veteran Nazrul singer Khalid Hossain, and social activist Abdul Mukit.
The cultural segment of the first day event featured a play based on the Nazrul’s poem ‘Khuki O Kathbirali’, solo Nazrul Sangeet performance by the artistes of Nazrul Academy and recitation by Shamima Chowdhury.
There will be discussion and cultural performances on each of the second and third day.
The concluding programme, which will take place at the Nazrul Academy’s own compound at Moghbazar, will include presentations of timeless Nazrul songs by the academy’s own singers. The programme will start from 5pm every day and continue till May 27.
To disclose the above information, a press conference was held at the premises of the Nazrul Academy on Friday, where Nazrul Academy General Secretary Mintu Rahman, Vice President Syed Akhter Yusuf, Language Movement veteran Abdul Gafur and Muhammad Abdul Hannan, among others were present. l
