‘Art Makes Us Human’ continues at Studio 6/6

A 10-day online art project titled ‘Art Makes Us Human’, first of its kind in the country, by artist NajibTareque began on May 15 at Studio 6/6 in the city’s Mohammadpur area. The project also includes discussion sessions, where prominent artists and poets join in to share a few words. Poet Maruf Raihan was present during the art project and he talked about his experience of working with NajibTareque, while artist Abul Barq Alvi was also present. Other expected guests who will be there in the next few days are artists Mahmudul Haque, Rokeya Sultana, Nisar Hossain, Shishir Bhattacharjee, poet Maruf Raihan, artists Lala Rukh Selim, Mustafa Zaman, poets Shoaib Gibran, Kabir Humayan and artist Nasimul Khabir Duke.
According to information found, till now, this is one of the first online art projects in the world. The project made its first appearance in Instagram on July 2015. Since then, more than 1000 artworks with the title ‘Art Makes Us Human’ have been posted on Instagram. The series is part of a conceptual art project, which brings forward a notion which remains invisible to people as of yet. The artist used many of his previously drawn illustrations for various books, newspapers and magazines. With illustrations surrounding our everyday lives, art really does make us human. Images which shape our very existence is profoundly invisible with elements which stick in our brain and make us who we are.
Najib Tareque graduated from Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University. He was the former chief artist of both Daily Jugantor and Daily Janakantha. The artist was also the former Brand Marketing Consultant of Standard Chartered Bank. Since 1987 he has been part of various group and solo exhibitions both in the country and abroad. Among his solo exhibitions a few were hosted purely online. He was the founding member of Jolrong, one of the first online Art galleries in South Asia.
The exhibition is open to all until May 25.
