Jagannath University holds its first music festival

The first ever music festival by Jagannath University titled ‘Prothom Sangeet Utsab’ was held on Thursday under the initiative of the music department at the central auditorium of the university. At the beginning of the festival, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman presented ‘Uttorio’ to chief guest Cultural Affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor and chairman of the university’s music department Professor Dr. Laisa Ahmed Lisa presented ‘Uttorio’ to Mizanur Rahman. This was followed by a ‘Mangal Pradip’.
Dr. Mohsina Akhtar Khanam from Dhaka University music department, Asit Dey from University of Development Alternative and Pradip Kumar Nandi from Shanto Marium University’s music department were presented with mementos by Professor Mizanur Rahman.    
Asaaduzzaman Noor in his speech said, “The students should focus more on gaining valuable knowledge. Through gaining knowledge and learning more about our art and culture can extinguish any negativity and darkness from the mind. They must improve knowledge about our cultural heritage and history and that will inspire a better society and they must also enlighten their mind. ” Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman said, “The music department of Jagannath University will play a pivotal role towards spreading the culture of Old Dhaka and for the university. It will most certainly contribute positively towards it.”
Treasurer Professor Mohammad Selim Bhuiyan also gave a speech, and the festival was presented by lecturer of the university’s music department Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan and special part time teacher Ali FM Rezwan gave the welcome speech.
The festival featured performances from Nadira Begum, Khairul Anam Shakil, Asit Dey, Ali FM Rezwan, Bulbul Islam, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Aditi Mohsin, Sharmin Sathi Islam, Kanchan Mustafa, Dr.  Shekhar Mandal, Anima Ray, Mahmudul Hasan, Priyanka Gop, Buzhur Ahmed, Paritosh Kumar Mandal, Mehfuz Al Fahad, Ishrat Jahan and students and teachers from Dhaka University, University of Development Alternative and Shanto Marium University’s music departments.
