Jahanara Ahmed to be honoured with Ekushey Padak today

On the occasion of February 21 (Bengali Language Movement Day), for her immense contribution to the cultural arena of Bangladesh for over five decades, legendary actress, dramatist and director Jahanara Ahmed will be honoured with the Ekushey Padak award, one of the highest civilian awards in Bangladesh. DhakaLive has news that Jahanara Ahmed will receive the prestigious award from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Osmani auditorium today at 11 am.
Regarding this honour, Jahanara Ahmed said, “I am honoured and delighted that I am about to receive the prestigious Ekushey Padak award. It is truly a great feeling to be honoured with his award and being recognised for all my 50 years of work and effort.”
Few years ago, a novel titled ‘Locket’, written by Jahanara Ahmed, which consists of three stories, has been made into a drama serial with one of its stories ‘Chobol’. Produced by Layla Huq, the drama serial is aired every Friday on BTV at 9pm. Another tele-drama titled ‘Necklace’, based on a story written by Jahanara Ahmed, received immense praise after it was aired on television. In addition to television, Jahanara Ahmed has also contributed towards the radio as several radio dramas on Bangladesh Betar. Over 50 radio dramas on women empowerment, proper raising and development of children, population, farming which were broadcasted were written by her. She even produced some of the radio dramas. She acted in a radio drama in 1962. She has been acting regularly since 1965. She has acted in drama serials such as ‘Drishtipath’, ‘Ghoroya’, ‘Sangshaptok’. After the country’s independence, her notable drama serials are ‘Sokal Sondha’, ‘Sukhtara’, ‘Bela Obela’, ‘Apon Jon’ and ‘Danob’.
