‘My Bicycle’ screened at Göteborg Film Festival

Young filmmaker Aung Rakhine’s debut film ‘My Bicycle’ (Maw Theng Gari) —the first ever full-length feature film in Chakma language in Bangladesh, recently participated in the prestigious Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden. The 39th edition of the festival has included the Bangladeshi film in the New Voice category. The film was screened at four venues, and director Aung Rakhine informed that out of the four screenings, three of them had a full house. The Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden began on January 29 and concluded yesterday. Aung Rakhine returned to Bangladesh on Saturday. He said, “The film was screened at four venues. I was there to listen to the perspectives and opinions of the viewers. In this festival, about 500 films are screened and not all of them enjoy a full house. The fact that ‘My Bicycle’ had a full house on three occasions is certainly a major achievement. Also, the film was included in the New Voice category. This is a very important category and is a platform for directors and artistes.” To note, earlier the film participated in 19th Black Nights Film Festival, one of the leading film festivals in the Nordic countries and Eastern Europe in Estonia’s capital Tallinn and Silver Akbuzat International Festival of National and Ethnic Cinema 2015 in Ufa, Russia, in December. In the Silver Akbuzat International Festival of National and Ethnic Cinema 2015, the film was screened in the main category competition, while for the Black Nights Film Festival, the film was screened as part of the World Cinema category in three cinema halls in Tallinn. Recently the film was also screened in Finland’s Skábmagovat film festival.
