Young volunteers, entrepreneurs to work together

International Volunteer Day observed
UNB

Young volunteers and social entrepreneurs have vowed to work together and contribute more to sustainable development as the word is changing fast.
They got together to celebrate the International Volunteer Day (IVD) through a pitching competition for inspirational and innovative projects organized by the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) programme and the Voluntary Service Oversees (VS0) on Sunday reports UNB.
The volunteers also shared their ideas on how social challenges can be transformed into opportunities at the celebration held at the central public library auditorium of Dhaka University, said a press release yesterday.
The volunteers and social entrepreneurs talked about innovation, as more and more talks are being heard, to face global and national changes, as well as to ensure effective implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To celebrate talks around the potential of this inspiring new partnership between volunteers and entrepreneurs, the chairman of BUILD, Asif Ibrahim, addressed the youth expressing the desire of seeing more of these types of initiatives in the future.
He laid emphasis on exploring new partnerships for development to ensure the participation of the private sector in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The jury that evaluated the pitching performance of the young volunteers and entrepreneurs was composed by joint secretary, ministry of children and women affairs, Md Aminul Islam, deputy project director, ministry of youth and sports SM Quamrul Hassan, BWCCI director Tania Wahab and senior correspondent of the united news of bangladesh (UNB) AKM Moninuddin.
The videos of the winner of the ‘inspiration’ category, Joseph Chakma, will soon be available online, while the winners of the action category, Samuel Birmingam and Beatrice Cabecadas, will have the opportunity to transform their inspiration into action thanks to a $3,000 prize to realize their project sponsored by UNV and VSO.
Head of the UNV programme in Bangladesh Linda Germanis and country director of VSO Simon Brown both highlighted the support of their organisations to explore the potential of this new partnership for development of volunteerism and entrepreneurship.
