Pace-bowler Al Amin Hossain has said they will play against visiting Zimbabwe with the intent of whitewashing them in the ensuing ODI series.

He also said the way they performed and won the Test against the East African side, they should triumph in the ODI series.

“The way all the players performed in the Test, it was wrapped up on the fourth day with a comprehensive margin of win. We’re yet to start our practice for the upcoming ODI series. Despite that, we’ll try to win the ODI series,” said Al Amin Hossain, who returned to the ODI side after a long lull.

“If we can whitewash them in the ODI series, it would be all the more better for us,” he told the media in front of the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

“The way Bangladesh is playing, a whitewash of Zimbabwe is on the cards. It will be a failure for us if we don’t do it,” he added.

Despite thrashing Zimbabwe by an innings and 106 runs, the pace-bowler said they are not taking anything for granted against the visiting side, as things can change quickly in the game of cricket.

The Bangladesh team called off their optional practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, as they were preparing to leave for Sylhet to take part in the three-match ODI’s series, scheduled for March 1, 3 and 6.

Despite their morale boosting win against Zimbabwe, the host will not take the visitors lightly in the upcoming ODI’s. “We cannot take anything for granted,” said Al Amin Hossain.

“We have to play good cricket with every team not only Zimbabwe, but also Afghanistan, because there will always be ups and downs in cricket,” he also said.

“Sometimes we perform well and sometimes we don’t and that is the way cricket goes,” he added.

Citing the recent performance of Australia and India, the pacer said the important thing is to handle lean patches and know how to utilise purple patches fully. “Bad and good times will come to every team. Even India lost to New Zealand the opening Test despite having played cricket for so long,” he added.

“We’ve been playing cricket for 20-22 years. Our team is playing better cricket. Bad times will surely come. The important thing is how we will tackle the bad times,” he said.

The experienced pacer said it is really a challenge for pace bowlers to do well for the team in one-day and T20 games. “If pace bowlers can do well in one-day and T20 matches, it becomes easier for the team,” he added.

The right-handed medium fast-bowler said he has to perform better to cement his place in the team. “I have to perform better. So, I regularly do practice sessions. And if I get a chance, I will try to do well,” the 30-year-old pacer added.

Al-Amin was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for violating code of conduct during rthe ecently concluded BPL.
