Freshers’ orientation held at IU

UNB, Islamic University

A freshers' orientation programme was held at the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia yesterday amid festivity and much enthusiasm. IU English department organised the programme at the gallery of the university’s Rabindra-Nazrul arts building in the morning. IU Vice-chancellor Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, also a Professor of the department, addressed the programme as the chief guest while Pro-VC Prof M Shahinoor Rahman, treasurer Prof M Selim Toha and social science faculty dean Prof Nasim Banu spoke as special guests. The department’s chairperson Professor Salma Sultana was in the chair. Around a hundred newly-enrolled students took part in the programme. IU VC Askari said, “If you had a language of your own, it’d be the sharpest weapon to explore the hidden talents within you.” IU English department professors M Maher Ali, M Mamunur Rahman, Shahadat Hossain Azad and Associate Professor Prodip Kumar Adhikari, among others, were present on the occasion.

Orientation for MBBS students held

An orientation programme for the 25th MBBS batch students of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College affiliated of Dhaka University was held on its campus at Savar yesterday, says a press release. Principal of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Prof Farida Adib Khanum presided over the programme. Dr Manzur Kadir Ahmed, coordinator, Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital, Dr Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, head, Department of Neonatology and Paediatrics, Dr Munjiba Shams, head, Department of Physiology, Dr Md Shakil Mahmood, head, Department of Biochemistry of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College addressed the progamme, among others. The speakers urged the students to become a good human being as well as a good doctor on the occasion. Earlier, an oath taking programme for the newcomers was held at National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. Prof Farida Adib Khanum, principal of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College conducted the ceremony. The faculty members were present there.
