BCB boss warns Tigers not to take Zimbabwe lightly

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka
BCB boss warns Tigers not
to take Zimbabwe lightly

Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) warned Tigers not to take Zimbabwe lightly, saying that the way they have now been performing in longer version cricket could be a disaster if they take them lightly.

Citing the recent performance of Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka, Papon urged players to play as a team and as a unit against the new-look Zimbabwe.

He thought Zimbabwe remained in their position but Bangladesh are not in their place.

“We have a series against Zimbabwe now. What we were seeing through the media for the last few days, it might be true. It is such a mood that will happen after winning against Zimbabwe. Win the Test first,” said Nazmul Hassan.

“It is deemed that we have won the Test. The way they are playing I don’t get to see any hope in my mind of winning the Test. If you take them lightly it will be a disaster because Zimbabwe remains in their place but we are not in our place,” Papon told the media after talking with the players.

The BCB president held discussion with the head coach Russell Domingo along with the players-Test captain Mominul Haque, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim.

Papon was flanked by BCB directors Akram Khan, IH Mallik, Mahbubul Anam and its CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

Citing the shocking loss to Zimbabwe, Papon urged players to play against Zimbabwe with a fresh mindset.

“If anyone asked what the worst performance Bangladesh did against Afghanistan. If we can lose to Afghanistan, we can also lose to Zimbabwe,” the BCB president said.

“Senior players have to take the responsibility. We have to play a team game against them,” he added.

“We had no cause for winning the T20 series against Pakistan. We won a match and lost two in India but none can tell us that we played badly against India. The approach and mindset we have against Pakistan was not right at all.”

“It is very difficult to win against Bangladesh on our soil whatever the stronger teams come here to play against us. The possibility of winning for us is much better than the other teams. Wherever we go to play in overseas conditions there is no reason to lose against five teams. We should not take Zimbabwe lightly as they are stronger opponents. Individual performance does not matter much. Teamwork is needed. Mominul is nervous. I told Mushfiq and Tamim to have joined the team completely,” he concluded.
