DU students protest torture on fellows

Our Correspondent, DU

A group of agitating students of Dhaka University brought out a procession on the campus yesterday protesting against the torture of four students allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders at Zahurul Haque on Wednesday. The also placed 4-point demand including resignation of DU proctor.   Anti- terrorism Students Unity- a platform of twelve progressive students’ organisations, brought out the procession from Raju Sculpture on the campus.

Students of Dhaka University’s tourism and hospitality management department also brought out another procession protesting the same incident. In the event, Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) vice President Nurul Haque Nur urged students to resist terror activities on the campuses. “We demand a safe campus but BCL is the main barrier’ he added.

On the other hand, Mukim, one of the victims and a second year student of tourism and hospitality management, has been observing a sit-in protest at Raju sculpture since Wednesday demanding trial of the attackers. “I was never involved with Chhatra Shibir. The Chhatra League men intentionally tortured us. They have no right to torture any students of the university,” Mukim said.  “I want expulsion of those who assaulted us. I will continue my protest until my demands are met,” he added.
