‘Digital Bangladesh Mela’ 2020 sees huge crowd on weekend

‘Digital Bangladesh Mela’ that kicked off on Thursday aiming to demonstrate benefits of 5G technology and information technology, witnessed a significant influx of visitors on the weekend at the capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).  

Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy inaugurated the fair with the theme “Highways of Technology in Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla”.

Both government and private entities in the digital technology sector are participated in the event, organised by Posts and Telecommunications Division.  

One of the main goals of the Digital Bangladesh Mela is to highlight the advancement and innovation of digital technology, ensure suitable human resources, build a bridge between mass people and advanced digital technology as well as showcase progress of “Digital Bangladesh” campaign.

Visiting the fair, The Independent found that a large number of visitors are exploring different stalls and pavilion at the fair.

A total of 82 firms, including ISPs, are showcasing broadband internet, triple play technology (land phone, internet and cable TV connection in single cable), mobile apps, parental control and other technologies.

The participators are distributing among the visitors free of cost on the fair premises highlighting various aspects of digital security as the government is working across the country to create awareness about the digital security.

Several phone companies like Samsung, Walton, Symphony and other firms are displayed their new products at the fair to attract the visitors.

In addition, different technology vendors with the cooperation of mobile phone operators are demonstrating 5G technology. Moreover, child programming and robotic education along with telemedicine are training in the fair.

At the fair venue, Huawei-installed fifth generation telecom technology demonstrated 1.6gigabytes per second download speed by using mobile phone.

The telecom vendor also arranged a robot show at its pavilion in the fair venue where the interactive humanoid robot played soccer as per the command of hand gesture. Huawei also installed 5G-enabled play-zone where visitors experienced real-time virtual reality (VR) test that drew attention.

Visitors got a realistic feeling of skiing through 5G- enabled VR gear.

A visitor named Mizanur Rahman at the fair said that I came to the fair and learned about various aspects of the fifth generation (5G) mobile phone network technology. I also learned how to take various government services.

Another visitor, Mansur Ali, said that such fair is a good initiative from the government.  After visiting the fair, I learned several things of technology.

Different ministries, divisions and departments of government are highlighting their progress in the field of digitization in some 25 stalls, 29 mini pavilions and 28 pavilions. In addition, the fair has a separate corner for Bangabandhu, where life and works of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are being portrayed through digital technology.

The fair remain open at 10am to 8pm for all till today (Saturday).
