Train engine catches fire

UNB, Cumilla

A fire broke out at the engine compartment of 'Chattala Express' train at Lalmai Railway Station on Friday evening.

The reason behind the fire was heat of the engine, said Kamrul Islam, station master of Lalmai Railway Station.

Several passengers were injured as they tried to get down quickly. On information, a fire fighting team from Barura upazila came to the spot and doused the fire that broke out around 6:45pm. The incident did not disrupt train services, the station master added.

Minor boy killed in road crash

A minor boy was killed in a road crash at Traikandi Bridge area on Mymensingh-Dhobaura road under Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh on Friday evening.

The victim was identified as Shamim Mia, son of Farid Mia of Taraikandi village in Dhobaura. Shamim was a second grader at Taraikandi Govt Primary School.

Quoting local people, officer-in-charge of Dhobaura Police Station Ali Ahmed Mollah said a covered van of pharmaceutical company crashed the boy while he was crossing the road from his grandfather’s grocery shop to reach home, killing the boy on the spot around 5.30pm.

On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Later the body was handed over to the family members.  Police seized the van and arrested its driver soon after the incident. A case was lodged with Dhobaura Police Station.
