Ctg eye to make two in two against Khulna

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

After winning the opening encounter against the underrated team Sylhet Thunders yesterday, Chattogram Challengers will eye to make it two in a row when they will take on Mushfiqur Rahim led Khulna Tigers in their second match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, kicks off at 6.30pm today.

While Chattogram Challengers, who already took the field to open their Bangabandhu BPL account with a five-wicket win against Herschelle Gibbs’ Sylhet Thunders, Khulna Tigers, on the other hand, did their pre-match practice sessions to hone their skills yesterday making themselves ready to face the Challengers at the SBNCS.

Considering the strength, Challengers have more fast bowling options than Khulna Tigers who only have three fast bowlers in the squad. Although the Tigers’ have veteran Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir with them, there are only Robbie Frylinck and Shafiul Islam to support him at the other end while Challengers have Rubel Hossain, Muktar Ali, Rayad Emrit under their belt with Kesrick and Muhammad Musa yet to join the team. But with pacers available at the moment, both sides will go side by side for this clash. Aminul Islam Biplob (Khulna) and Jubair Hossain Likhon (Challengers) are the two genuine leg-spinners for respective sides. Sri Lankan Wanindu Hasaranga is another option left for the Tigers as a leggie, if selected in the playing XI.

Talking about the all-round ability, Khulna Tigers have slight edge over the Challengers as they have three bowling all-rounders- Mehidy Hasan, Robbie Frylinck and Aminul Islam Biplob in the squad. Since Mahmudullah Riyad to sit out for this match and Imad Wasim yet to arrive in Bangladesh, Nasir Hossain remains the sole all-rounder in the Challengers side. Rayad Emrit, who is yet again expected to lead the team, can be considered as a bowling all-rounder option for the challengers.

In the meantime, Khulna Tigers skipper Mushfiqur Rahim said that his side would mainly focus on perform altogether and play as unit in this BPL. He also reiterated that it was going to be more challenging BPL for him.

“Our focus would be playing good cricket as a team and we have to perform well altogether. Although we don’t have big names and such players who can win match single handedly but our team directors formed a very good side. We’ve Frylinck, Rossouw, and Shafiul, Miraz, Biplob as local talents. We also have three competitive cricketers in the squad who played in the SA Games. Hopefully, we can cope up with the situation and play as a unit,” Mushfiqur told reporters at the academy ground of the SBNCS yesterday.
