November inflation reaches 6.05pc

BSS, Dhaka

“The general point-to-point inflation in November reached 6.05 percentage point,” said Planning Minister MA Mannan yesterday.

He said this while briefing reporters after the monthly consumer price index was placed before the ECNEC meeting held in the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

The general point-to-point inflation rate was 5.47 percentage point in October.

The planning minister said the general point-to-point inflation rate increased by 0.58 per cent last month from the previous month mainly because of the onion price hike.

“The main actor (behind the inflation uptrend) is onion. We don’t want to hide anything and our stance is very much clear in this regard,” he added.

Mannan said although the inflation trend is showing a “zig-zag” trend, but, it is likely to ease in the coming days with the availability of winter vegetables.

The BBS data showed that the food inflation increased to 6.41 per cent in November from 5.49 per cent in the previous month, while the non-food inflation rate also increased slightly to 5.47 per cent last month from 5.45 per cent in October. In the rural areas, the general inflation rate increased to 6.01 per cent in the last month from 5.36 per cent in October.
