Tangail freed on this day

People of all walks of life will celebrate Tangail Free Day on December 11 in a befitting manner. On this day the freedom fighters liberated the Tangail from the clutches of the Pakistani occupation forces after nine months war.

The heroism of Kaderia Bahini, led by Abdul Kader Siddiqui, will be remembered in the history of the Liberation War. Many battles were fought in Tangail during nine months. The last battle was fought on December 10 night. The freedom fighters attacked Tangail town on December 10. The Pakistan army tried to escape on December 11 morning. Eleven Pak soldiers including Brigadier Kader Khan was killed at Bhutkura bridge on their way to Dhaka on Dhaka-Tangail highway. The Pak army escaped from Jamalpur and Mymensingh and reached Tangail for Dhaka as it was the only way to go to Dhaka.

The freedom fighters from four sides entered into Tangail town and captured 1400 Pak army. Some Pak army opened fire from water tank in the town. Freedom fighters retaliated with mortar shells. The freedom fighters asked the Pak army to surrender. Accordingly the Pak army surrendered to the freedom fighters. The freedom fighters freed Tangail on December 11. Company commander Fazlur Rahman, company commander Abdur Razzaque (current agriculture minister), Commander Bayezid Alam and Khondoker Anower Hossain led the freedom fighters on the day.

Various programmes have undertaken in Tangail to mark the Tangail Free Day on December 11.
