Goyeshwar for BNP MPs to quit JS

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy yesterday suggested that the party’s lawmakers should resign from the 11th Parliament and start a movement to oust the government. “People do not like the strategy of staying in Parliament and yet seeking the fall of the government. We have to make it clear that we want the fall of the government. Only then will people be with us,” he said. The BNP leader was speaking at a meeting, organised by Nari O Shishu Adhikar Forum, a pro-BNP organisation, at the Jatiya Press Club, with its convenor Selima Rahman in the chair. Describing the present Parliament as an “illegal harvest of December 29”, the day before the December 30 parliamentary poll, Roy said if the party lawmakers joined Parliament on a strategic ground, they should first join the movement to topple the government. The outspoken BNP leader said no movement could be intensified unless the BNP clearly placed before the people the party’s politics, aims, and objectives, as well as a clear pathway to reach the goal. Roy wondered how long party chairperson Khaleda Zia would remain in jail. He said Khaleda’s imprisonment cannot not be prolonged because people want a change.
