Demand for Ju VC removal

Protesters to hold rally at Shahbagh today

Our Correspondent, JU

A section of protesting teachers and students will hold mass gathering at Shahbag in the capital today demanding the removal of university Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam over graft allegation. After ending the seven-day ultimatum to JU authorities, they announced their new programme at a press conference on Thursday afternoon at the teachers’ lounge of New Arts academic building.

They also placed their three-point demand, including the removal of VC, the punishment of the attackers and to reopen the dormitories as well as to resume the academic activities. Coordinator of the platform ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ Prof Raihan Rain said, “The corruption allegations against the JU VC has already been proved. So, she lost legality to hold her post. She should resign immediately”.

“We are very glad to know that the government is concerned about our issue. We believe government will conduct a fair investigation in this connection”, he added.   Shovon Rahman, one of the organisers of the platform ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ readout the written statement at the press meet. Earlier, the protesters issued an ultimatum on November 13 to open the dormitories by November 21 but the university authorities did not take any initiative in this connection.
