Foster made Chattogram head coach in Bangabandhu BPL

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka
Foster made Chattogram head
coach in Bangabandhu BPL

Khulna Tigers have appointed English coach James Foster as their head coach ahead of the Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which is scheduled to get underway on December 11.

This will be the third instance of English head coaches’ appointment in BPL after Owais Shah and Paul Nixon, who was appointed by Chattogram Challengers, though team from Chattogram  has recruited Pakistan-born English coach Kabir Ali as their bowling coach.

With their appointments, a total of five foreign head coaches including Zimbabwe star cricketer-turned-coach Grant Flower, English coach Owais Shah and West Indian coach Ottis Gibson, has been appointed by BPL sponsor partners for the imminent edition of the country’s domestic blockbuster Twenty20 Cricket Tournament.

Of them, Cumilla Warriors appointed Gibson, Rangpur Rangers Grant Flower, while Rajshahi Royals picked Owais Shah before the BPL Players’ Draft, which was held on November 17. The trio was present at the Players’ Draft and helped their respective team pick right players to settle their team combination for the BPL.

James Foster represented England in seven Tests, 11 ODIs along with five T20Is before being retired from international cricket in 2009. Therefore, he played county cricket before assuming coaching stint as a profession.

It is learnt from the insiders of the Sylhet Thunders that they are looking for an overseas head coach to appoint though local coach Sarwar Imran took part in the Players’ Draft as head coach for them.

“The sponsor partners of the Sylhet Thunders are mulling to appoint a foreign coach and desperately searching for it. In that case, I can’t stay there because it’s not possible for me to work as an assistant coach at this age,” Sarwar Imran said.

The authorities of the Thunders request Sarwar Imran to stay with them as technical director. But it is not confirmed yet that he will actually be stayed with the team or not.
