Youth held with 3 pistols, Phensidyl in Lalmonirhat

UNB, Lalmonirhat

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested an alleged drug peddler along with three foreign pistols and Phensidyl syrup from Chandrapur Bazar in Kaliganj upazila on Saturday night.

The arrestee was identified as Khar-e-Jamal, 30, son of Taslim Uddin of Chandrapur village in the upazila.

Rab-13 ASP Motaher Hossain said they conducted a drive in the area around 11:30pm and arrested Khar-e-Jamal along with the pistols and 100 bottles of contraband Phensidyl syrup. He was wanted in several drug cases filed with Kaliganj Police Station, said its officer-in-charge Arju Mohammad Sajjad.

Sand-laden vessel sinks

in Meghna; 3 missing

Three workers went missing as a sand-laden vessel sank after being hit by a launch in the Meghna River in Gazaria upazila early Sunday.

Two of the missing workers are Aslam, 24, and Emdadul, 38. The vessel capsized in the Gazaria Launchghat area around 5:50am after being hit by Sadargaht-bound launch ‘MV Kirtonkhola-2’, said Harun-ur-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Gazaria Police Station.

The workers of the sand-laden vessel were asleep during the collision, he said. Coastguard Station Officer MM Asif said they arrested masters Md Shaidul Islam, Jahangir Hossain and Yunus over the accident. Shaidul claimed that the accident took place due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.

BGB seize heroin, yaba pills

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members, in a drive, seized 850 grams of heroin and 746 pieces of yaba pills at Dhanyakhola frontier in Benapole port under Jashore district on Saturday morning.  

 The seized drugs are worth Tk 50 lakh.

 Major Nazrul Islam, deputy commanding officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion, said acting on secret information BGB personnel chased a numebr of drug peddlers and recovered contraband drugs from a CNG-run auto rickshaw in an abandned state.  No one was arrested in the raid , he added.

 The seized drugs have been kept at BGB headquarters. It will be destroyed later in presence of high officials, representatives of the Narcotics Control Directorate, local elites and media representatives, he said.  A case was filed with Benapole Port Police station in this connection.

Schoolboy stabbed to death

A class ten schoolboy was stabbed to death and another sustained severe injuries by some miscreants at Kalikapur turning in Jhenidah town.

The deceased was identified as Saidur Rahman Sifat, 16, son of Manwar Hossain Mia of Kalikapur Pashchimpara of the town. He was studying in class ten in Wazir Ali School and college in Jhenidah.

Victim’s relative said, Sifat along with his friend Mahi was playing mobile game while two other youths named Sumon and Leon at the area attacked on Mahi. Sifat tried to save Mahi while the miscreants stabbed him and fled.

The injured duo was rushed to Jhenidah Sadar hospital in a critical state. The attending physicians referred Sifat to Faridpur medical college hospital as his condition was deteriorating.

But Sifat succumbed to his injuries on the way in the afternoon. The police was preparing to file a case in this connection.
