The Players Draft of the Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is slated to be held at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in the capital at 6:00pm today. Maasranga TV and GTV, the two official telecast partners of BPL 2019 will telecast live right from the beginning of the BPL Players’ Draft-2019, from where the team's sponsor partners will pick players as per their team strategy to form their respective squad.

The spectators across the world will watch the BPL Players auction for the 2019 edition from www.bplscorelive.com. Meanwhile, the logo unveiling ceremony of Bangabandhu BPL was held yesterday evening amid fanfare. Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon unveiled the logo in presence of BCB directors.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the BPL Governing Council have worked hard to make all the processes of the BPL ‘sound and smooth’ ahead of the country’s domestic Twenty20 blockbuster cricket tournament. Bangladesh Cricket board (BCB) director and its Grounds Committee Chairman Mahbubul Anam will conduct the players’ draft as the draft commissioner.

This year the BCB has enlisted more number of local players (210) for the Players’ Draft. Along with that, they have increased the base price in some slabs. There are six set salary bands including A-plus, A, B, C, D and E. The salary band of the A-plus category has been estimated from Tk 40-75 lakh what was Tk 35-65 lakh in the previous edition. But the salary band of the A category has been fixed at Tk 25-35 lakh. The number of players in these brackets is 14. Of them, six will be for A-Plus and nine for A category.

Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mustafizur Rahman are in A-plus category. But one will add to them either Liton Kumar Das or Soumya Sarkar.

A category has been comprised of Mehidy Hasan Miraj, Liton Kumar Das, Mominul Haque, Taijul Islam, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Mithun, Mohammad Saifuddin and Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi.

But the salary band of the remaining categories will remain alike. The salary slab of the E category will be started from Tk five lakh.

Each team has to take at least two foreign players and 13 Bangladeshi local players from the BPL Player’s Draft. A total of seven teams will take part in this year's BPL. They are Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna Comilla and Rangpur. Of them, Jamuna Bank has named after the Dhaka team as 'Dhaka Nawab' with the sponsorship of the team. Chattogram team sponsor Akhtar Group has named after their team ‘Chattogram Challengers’. The Sylhet team has been named after ‘Sylhet Thunders’ by the sponsor Jivani Footwear Company.

In addition, IPC has named after the Rajshahi team as ‘Rajshahi Runner’ with getting the sponsorship. Although Mind Tree has become the sponsor for the Khulna team, they did not select a name yet.

There is no icon player in the 2019 BPL but the BPL Governing Council has named five players in A-plus category.

A BCB director will guide the team as Team Director, who will present at the team’s table during the players’ draft with coach and sponsor partners. The English coach Kabir Ali, who already arrived in Dhaka, will work for Chattogram Challengers as bowling  coach.

Prime Minsiter Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the grand opening ceremony of the Bangabandhu-BPL for the 2019-20 season on December 8. But the BPL will get underway on December 11, just three days after its opening program.
