Amol storms into quarters

Reigning national champion Amol Roy was the only Bangladeshi player to still remain in the race when he stormed into the men’s quarterfinals of Sheikh Russel International Club Cup Tennis  Tournament being played at five different venues in Khulna. A south-paw Amol routed Al Sadei Adil Mustafa Abadalkarem of Iraq 6-1, 6-1 in a first round match of 64 players’ main draw. Then he went to outclassed Mukhidinov Firuz of Tajikistan by  6-2, 6-4 in a second round match to book a berth in the last eight.

Amol pairing with Ranjan Ram also moved up in the men’s doubles defeating Gyeltshen Nidup and Norba Pema of Bhutan 6-0, 6-2. It was learnt that later on they also won their second round match. However, the organizers could not provide the opponents’ name and match score of the match.

Shibu Lal, a Bangladesh born USA player, also snatched a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nitin Kumar Sinha of India in the first round. Biplob Ram, Alamgir Hossain, Milon Hossain, Faruq Hossain, Delwar Hossain, Ranjan Ram and Dipu Lal were the seven other Bangladeshi players who were eliminated in the first round.
