Nepal emerge unbeaten champs

Nepal women’s team celebrated the title of the Bangamata Asian Senior Women’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship outplaying their Maldives counterparts by straight 3-0 sets. In the one-sided final Nepal earned an easy 25-13, 25-12 and 25-08 win in the final at Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in the capital yesterday. Nepal, who recently announced volleyball as their national game, just proved that they are very much skilled and becoming expert in the game, as they emerged unbeaten champions.

Nepal predictably won the title as they throughout the tournament showed their class with defeating all the opponents by clear margin. Nepal coach Jagadish Prasad in his post-match reaction said, “I am very, very happy, it’s a historical moments for Nepal volleyball, the success came after the game became the national sport of the country.”

“The volleyball activities increased after it became national sport. We worked on how to develop the game and we are still improving. Now we are more confident to do better in the SA Games (December).” added Jagadish. “It is very much impressive, that the team won the feat at their first appearance in the any international competition.”

Earlier, Kyrgyzstan clinched the third position defeating the hosts Bangladesh in straight 3-0 set in the day’s first match of Bangamata Asian Senior Women’s Center Zone Volleyball Championship 2019 yesterday. Bangladesh women team, who played international match after a long interval earned mixed experiences when after a winning start against Afghanistan, suffered two consecutive defeats at the hands of Nepal and Maldives. But made a tremendous comeback against Kyrgyzstan to win the game coming from 0-2 behind.

Bangladesh though elevated the expectation to finish at least on third position but could not compete as they did in the previous match against the same opponents.

Bangladesh went down by straight 3-0 set with conceding the here sets by 13-25, 14-25 and 12-25 points.

Minister for Agriculture Abdur Razzak distributed prizes among the participants as chief guest, while Atiqul Islam, president of the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation and the Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, Syed Shahed Reza, secretary general of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and the ambassador of Maldives Aishath Shan Shakir were present as special guests in the occasion.
