Probe report in blogger Niloy murder trial Dec 15

BSS, Dhaka

A court here yesterday set December 15 for investigation agency to submit the probe report in the case filed over murder of blogger Niladri Chattopadhyay Niloy. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asheq Imam set the new date as the investigation agency, detective branch (DB) of police, failed to submit the report yesterday. Miscreants hacked Niloy to death in his Goran house in the capital on August 7, 2015. Niloy’s wife Ashamoni on the same day filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station against four unidentified miscreants. Law enforcement agencies later arrested seven members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) in this connection. The arrestees are Mufti A Gaffar, Mortuza Foysal Sabbir, Qawsar Hossain Sardar, Kamal Hossain Sardar, Sad Al Nahid, Masum Rana and Torikul Islam. Of the seven, the last two are now on bail.

Probe reports in 4 cases over DU violence Jan 2

A Dhaka court yesterday set January 2 to submit probe reports in four cases filed over violence that took place during the quota reform movement in April, 2018, at Dhaka University (DU). Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari set the new date as the concerned investigation officers failed to submit the reports yesterday. According to the case documents, hundreds of agitated people broke into the official residence of DU vice-chancellor around 1 am on April 8, 2018. They broke the main door of the complex and vandalized all things they found in front of them. They set a couple of vehicles and motorbikes in and around the complex on fire. DU chief security officer on April 10 filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station over the destruction.
