Residential Model student dies from electrocution

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka
Residential Model student dies from
electrocution

A ninth grader of Residential Model School and College in the capital died from electrocution on the school premises yesterday. The deceased was identified as Naimul Abrar Rahat, 14. A relative of the student confirmed the matter to The Independent last night. According to the family members and relatives, the ill-fated boy got entangled in electric wire at around 4:00pm on the school premises during an event organised by Kishor Alo, a publication meant for the young readers of Bangla language daily Prothom Alo.

The relatives, however, questioned safety and precautionary measures at a programme arranged for the youngsters. After his electrocution, the ninth grader was taken to Universal Medical College and Hospital (former Aysha Memorial Hospital) at around 5:00pm, when the doctors pronounced him dead.

The hospital sources also confirmed his death.

“The boy died before he was taken to the hospital. His family already received his body,” a source said. When asked, Sub-Inspector Sajib of Mohammadpur police station confirmed the information to The Independent, saying that the boy was electrocuted.

No case or general dairy was filed in this regard till filing this report at 12:30am, said the duty officer of the police station.
