Five railway stations in Chuadanga closed for long

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chuadanga

Five rail stations, out of 10, have been closed in Chuadanga district due to lack of staff since long. As a result, people of Chuadanga, Jhenidah and Meherpur districts are facing problems. The 10 stations are Ansarbaira, Uthuly, Darshana Holt, Darshana International, Joyrampur, Gaidghat, Chuadanga, Mominpur, Musnigonj and Alamdanga. The closed stations are Ansarbaria, Joyrampur, Gaidhghat, Mominpur and Alamdanga.

According to sources, local trains are operated privately. These trains stop at Ansarbaria, Uthuly, Jorampur, Munsigonj and Alamdanga. Gaidghat and Mominpur stations are fully closed. There is no railway staff at these stations. Tin-shed structures of the stations are now unfit for use.

Faruk Hossain Joarder, chairman of the Mominpur union parishad in Sadar upazila, told this correspondent that their demand is closed rail stations should be opened as early as possible by appointing new staff.

Chuadanga, Darshana Halt and Darshana International are doing better than the other rail stations of Chuadanga district.

Chuadanga station master, Md.Mizanur Rahman, said the condition of the station is deplorable. It was repaired recently. But plaster from walls is falling off. There are only two latrines in the station, which are not sufficient for the passengers.

Only five seats are allocated for the people of Chuadanga on the Chitra Express and Sunderban Express.

Shajahan Ali, a passenger of the Chitra Express, said he did not get a ticket for Dhaka and so decided to go all the way without a seat.

Inhabitants of Chuadanga have demanded 60 seats each on the Chitra Express and Sunderban Express. Darshana Halt and Darshana International have a sufficient number of staff, sources added. Ahsan Ullah Bhuyan, divisional manager of Paksy Railway of Pabna, said they are trying to reopen the closed stations as soon as possible.
