Man gets life term for violating schoolgirl

STAFF REPORTER, Barishal

A Barishal court on Monday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for violating a schoolgirl on September 9, 2013

Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunals Abu Shamim Azad handed down the verdict after examining seven witnesses and other evidences in presence of the accused.  The court also fined him Tk 50, 000, in default, to suffer two years more in jail.  Kawsar Hossain, bench clerk of the court, said the accused Bellal Hossain, son of Harun Haoladar of Charlata under Mehendiganj upazila of Barishal, often disturbed the victim on way to her school and promising to marry her Bellal developed physical relation with the girl on September 09, 2013.  However, he refused to marry her.

Mother of the victim lodged a case with the tribunal on September 15, 2013 accusing Bellal. The case was send to Mehendiganj police station for investigation. Sub Inspector Asim Kumar Shikdar, investigation officer of the case, filed charge sheet against the lone accuse on October 11, 2013.

 

6,636 books donated to 30 secondary schools

BSS, Rangpur

The Asia Foundation with assistance of Pubali Bank Limited (PBL) donated 6,636 Bangla and English language books worth Taka 86 lakh to 30 secondary level schools of the district here on Monday afternoon.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam as the chief guest distributed the donated books among students and teachers of the schools in a held at Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) auditorium in the city. The Asia Foundation with assistance of Pubali Bank Limited (PBL) organised the book donation event presided over by Deputy General Manager of PBL Md. Kamruzzaman.

RpMP celebrates first founding anniversary

BSS, Rangpur

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) celebrated its founding anniversary through daylong various programmes on Monday amid huge enthusiasm and festivity in the city.

The celebrations began with realising balloons followed by bringing out of a huge colourful ‘Ananda Shobhayatra’ by the Traffic Division of RpMP and it paraded the main city streets from the District Police Lines ground.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, RpMP Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud and high officials took part in the ‘Ananda Shobhayatra’.
