The five-day ‘Syed Mohidul Islam Smaran Utsab 2019’ (Syed Mohidul Islam Memorial Festival) will come to an end today through staging the play ‘Girgiti’ at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital. Theatre troupe Granthik Natyagoshthi will bring the final play of the festival on the stage at 7pm.

Paying tribute to the noted playwright, actor and director Syed Mohidul Islam on his 17th death anniversary, Batikrom Natya Goshthi has arranged the five-day festival.

The play ‘Girgiti’ is a satirical play. Girgiti is one kind of Lizards, which have the ability to change its colours. Its characteristic, position, movement, and even voices are mysterious. Certain people also possess the characteristic of Girgiti. The play revolves around a middle-class family. In the course of events, they are seen to have differing ambitions while people like iguana serve to widen the margin in their difference.

Directed by Matiur Rahman Rana, the play stars Kaysarul Islam, Faisal Alam, Ripon, Nazma Akter, Shaon and others.

As a part of the festival, the hosting troupe conferred ‘Syed Mohidul Islam Padak 2019’ on the opening day. This year, renowned thespian Asaduzzaman Noor received the award.
