Bangladesh emerging team in India to play 5 one-day matches

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

A fifteen-member U-23 squad (Emerging team) led by Saif Hasan reached India to play 5-match one-day series against India U-23, scheduled to kick-off September 19 in Lucknow.

The U23 team is set to play five one-dayers on September 19, 21, 23, 25 and 27 at the same venue in Lucknow's Ekana International Cricket Stadium.

Earlier on September 16, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-man squad for U23's tour of India. The team left Dhaka for India yesterday morning.

The BCB constituted the squad picking most of the players from the HP team that played against Sri Lanka HP team in the previous month. Yasir Ali, Ariful Haque and Mahedi Hasan, who were included for the first two T2OIs in the ongoing tri-nation series, are among the notable players made the squad.

BCB selector Habibul Bashar, who will guide the players in the tour, said that, ‘‘it will be a difficult tour for the players, because they (India U23) are a very strong opponent. But this tour will help players a lot. Considering the batting strength, we included Ariful Haque to the line-up while two other players Fardeen Hasan and Mahidul Islam have also been added.’’

High Performance head coach Simon Helmot has been given the charge of the Emerging U23 Team in India. Gulam Mostafa, who earlier toured with the BCB XI in Bengaluru in Karnataka, will assist him during the tour.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) though earlier announced the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium venue in Raipur for all the five-matches but incessant rain forced the cricket board of India to change their decision. However, the schedules of the five matches remain unchanged.

Bangladesh U23 squad: Saif Hassan (captain), Zakir Hassan(wk), Jaker Ali(wk), Yasir Ali, Ariful Haque, Mahedi Hasan, Fardeen Hasan, Mahidul Islam, Al Amin, Tanvir Islam, Manik Khan, Shafiqul Islam, Sumon Khan, Robiul Haque, Sabbir Hossain.
