Couple found dead in Mymensingh

Police recovered the bodies of a man and his wife from Kandania Bonnyapara village in Phulbaria upazila of Mymensingh yesterday noon.

The deceased were identified as Iman Ali, 45, a marginal farmer and his wife Aklima Khatun, 40, of Kandania Bonnyapara village. Their three sons stay in different areas for their work purposes, said police sources.

Md Firoz Talukder, officer-in-charge of Phulbaria Police Station said local people found the body of Aklima floating in a pond nearby their house while Iman’s body was found hanging from a tree adjacent to the pond in the morning and informed police.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The bodies bore no injury marks, said the OC.

Quoting the victims’ family members, the OC also said Iman had been suffering from mental disorder since 2017.

There was feud between the couple too as Iman suspected that Aklima had developed an illicit relationship with someone. Sometimes the couple used to lock in serious altercation over the matter, said the OC.

Iman might have killed his wife first over the dispute and later he committed suicide, said the OC.

2 smugglers held with gecko

UNB, Bageraht

Forest Department arrested two alleged smugglers along with a gecko from the Sundarbans under Sharankhola upazila here on Monday night.

The arrestees are M Khalil Kazi, 40, son of M Tulu Kazi, and Nasir Sarder, 35, son of M Chunu Sarder of Charduani in Patkekghata upazila of Barguna district.

Acting on a tip-off, team of forest officials conducted a drive at Pajrakuta canal around 9pm and arrested the duo from a boat, said Divisional Forest Officer of the Sundarbans East Zone M Mahamudul Hasan.

Later, they rescued a gecko from a plastic bag.

Newborn’s body recovered

Police recovered the body of a newborn from the Dakatia River in Hajiganj upazila on Monday night.

Alamgir Hossain Roni, officer-in-charge of Hajiganj Police Station, said locals spotted the body floating beneath the Bolakhal-Natehar Bridge around 7pm and informed them.

Later, they recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for autopsy, he said, suspecting that the body might have been floating in the river for two days.

2 brothers die from snakebite

Two brothers died after being bitten by a venomous snake at Nagpara village under Shailkupa upazila of the district on Monday night.

The deceased were identified as Shahin Mondol, 28, and his younger brother Shohan Mondol, 8, hailed from the village.

Local people said the incident occurred at midnight last night while Shohan and Shahin were sleeping at their residence.

They were rushed to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex but the duty doctors referred them to Kushtia Sadar Hospital later as their condition deteriorated.

Shohan died on the way to the Kushtia Sadar Hospital while Shahin died during treatment there.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shailkupa Thana Bozlur Rahman confirmed.

The snake was beaten to death by locals at that night.
