6.5 lakh e-mutation cases resolved since July

Digitisation of land services a landmark: Minister
STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka
6.5 lakh e-mutation cases resolved since July

A total of 655,220 e-mutation cases have been resolved since the introduction of the online system in July this year. There were as many as 10 lakh applications. This was revealed at a press conference on the evaluation results of e-mutation capacity. The land ministry is implementing the project with the help of the A2I project and the Land Reform Board. A conference held at the land ministry yesterday stated that e-mutation was being implemented at 485 upazila land offices and circle offices along with 3,617 union land offices. Altogether 10,815,939 beneficiaries are getting e-mutation services. The implementation of cent per cent e-mutation, except in three hill districts, began on July 1 this year to ensure transparency and accountability in land services.

Speaking at the press conference, land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury termed the government's initiative of digitisation of land services as a ‘landmark’, saying that people would get 100 per cent land-related services digitally by 2021. “After digitisation of all land-related services, the number of land disoute cases will be significantly reduced,” he said.

He also said the government had introduced e-mutation from July 1 to reduce harassment in providing land-related services.

The minister, however, said the digitisation of land registration was still a great challenge.

There should be liaison between the land and law ministries to ease the process, he added.

He also said the land ministry would soon introduce a hotline to know if anyone was facing any difficulty in getting the digitisation facilities.

Replying to a question, the minister admitted that there were still some problems relating to the issuance of e-mutation due to server problems in some areas and lack of the broadband line in some land offices.

He, however, expressed hope that the government would soon reach fibre optic internet lines to all unions.

The minister also said people could now apply for e-mutation by browsing www.land.gov.bd sitting at home or from nearby land offices.

The land office now can resolve mutation-related disputes easily, quickly and without error, he added.

The state minister for information and communication Technology (ICT), Zunaid Ahmed Palak, said the implementation of e-mutation would save 70 per cent time.

He also said the number of land-related cases would be reduced with land digitisation.

He expressed optimism that corruption would be reduced with cent per cent digitation at all levels.

Among others, Ummul Hasna, chairman of the Land Reform Board, was also present at the press conference.
