Dhaka Dental College to be made university: Kamal Mojumder

State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder yesterday said the government will take an initiative to upgrade Dhaka Dental College to a university. “The government will ensure all facilities for the teachers and students of the Dhaka Dental College. An initiative will be taken to turn the college into a university,” he said. The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and unveiling ceremony of a memorial plaque for the teachers and students of the college who embraced martyrdom during the Liberation War on the premises of Dhaka Dental College and Hospital at Mirpur area in the city. Kamal Mojumder said all institutions of the government are working for the development of the country. Bangladesh has turned into a role model of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, adding the whole world now honour Bangladesh for its extraordinary progress.


IU begins int’l conference on social unrest

A two-day-long seventh International Consortium for Social Development Asia-Pacific (ICSDAP) Biennial Conference on ‘Social unrest, peace and development’ began at Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Saturday. IU vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashisd Askari addressed the inaugural session of the conference as the chief guest while ICSDAP president and also Professor of Social Work department of Charles Sturt University, Australia, Prof Manohar Pawar delivered the keynote speech on the occasion. Royal University of Dhaka vice-chancellor Prof Profulla C Sarker and IU Treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha spoke here as special guests with IU pro vice-chancellor, also the chairman of Social Welfare department of the university Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman in the chair. ICSD chairman and principal of Institute of Rural Reconstruction of Visva-Bharati Sriniketan, Prof Ashok Kumar Sarkar and conference coordinator Prof Dr Mamunur Rahman delivered welcome speech at the event Around four hundred delegations and one hundred scholars and researchers from eight countries of the world participated here Dr Mostafizur Rahman of university Folklore Studies department conducted the event. While addressing the programme, the speakers discussed on total of thirteen contemporary issues including poverty, population problem, socio-economic discrimination, religious confliction, climate change, global warming, gender discrimination and health hazard.
