Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has proposed Neil McKenzie to work for batting in Test beside his one-day and Twenty20 stints although the South African coach is yet to confirm the board.

But it’s learnt from local media sources said that Neil McKenzie in principle agreed to work with red-ball beside his white-bal stint.

“It’s tough for me to stay with Bangladesh team for the whole time as my wife used to travel with me,” Neil McKenzie said according to this local media.

“But this time I have to stay here in Bangladesh. BCB wants I work for batting in Test. Even coaching staff wish me to stay here. So, I have agreed,” McKenzie said.

When asked BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury regarding the matter, he said that McKenzie is yet to inform them of his willingness after they earlier proposed him to work in Test beside his current stint. Even BCB Cricket Operations chairman Akram Khan echoed the same sentiment and said  they are waiting for his feedback.

McKenzie, who has been working for white-ball for the last one year, didn’t ink deal for longer version cricket with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to give more time to his family.

The board meanwhile extended his contract for the next two years being happy with his jaw-dropping performance. The BCB is trying to get him for the longer version cricket for so long. Finally, it’s going to be fulfilled because he could not reject BCB’s proposal this time around. He has agreed to work for all the three formats of games.

McKenzie signed a deal with BCB to work for limited-overs cricket as a batting consultant in July last year. By his fantastic work, he became favourites among the players within the short span of time.

One-day captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is satisfied with McKenzie’s overall performance. When Shakib-Tamim-Mahmudullah would fall in problems, they rush to McKenzie.

The South Africa-born coach teaches the younger players very cordial way. And for this, the BCB has proposed him to work for longer version cricket beside his shorter-format job.

BCB initially had an agreement with McKenzie that ran up to the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England and Wales.

After their disappointing performance in the World Cup, BCB decided to axe some of the members of the team management that included head coach Steve Rhodes and bowling coach Courtney Walsh.

However, BCB remained happy with McKenzie and decided to extend his contract and now thinking in the line of recruiting him on full time basis.

McKenzie played 58 Tests, 64 ODIs and two Twenty20s for South Africa. Following his retirement from international cricket in 2009, McKenzie has twice acted as South Africa’s batting consultant.
