Bangladesh national football team started their joint qualification competition of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and the Asia Cup with an unimpressive note when they suffered a solitary goal defeat against Afghanistan in Dushanbe on Tuesday.

Bangladesh, who were playing under pressure almost in the 90 minutes game conceded the goal before half an hour of the match.

Bangladesh, who looked to fight almost evenly, began the game with playing good organisation and some pressing football but could not keep up the momentum for long.

Afghanistan took only four minutes to react and to be organised when they took only five minutes to take their control and played with full domination almost rest of the time.

Bangladesh, who were in under pressure against the attacking football of Afghanistan, conceded the goal on 27th minute which also a bit unfortunate for Bangladesh.

It was an ordinary move from Afghan, but Bangladesh defender won a free kick some 10 yards far from the box and Farshad Noor headed on the set piece from Omid Popalzy, Bangladesh keeper Ashraful Rana despite tried hard to clear the ball but was unfortunate as his fist hit the cross bar before going into net (1-0).

Bangladesh after conceding goal trying hard to bounce back but due to wrong passing and slow movements they could not make any threat on the opponents but creating a golden opportunity at the eleventh hour.

It was second minute of four minutes added times from left wing, Nabi Newaz Jibon having the ball possession inside the area but failed to push the ball into net just two yards from the goal-line.

Bangladesh will host Qatar on October 10 while they will their third match in Kolkata against India on October 15.

Bangladesh team returned home yesterday evening when Nabib Newaz Jibon, the main striker of Bangladesh team said over phone that the Chinese referee overlooked a penalty when an Afghan defender made a bad tackle on him from behind.

Jibon said, "When I was about to take a shot to net from some yards from the goal-line, an Afghan defender made a bad tackle on me from behind but referee just overlooked that."

"We claimed to referee for penalty but he denied, we just deprived from a penalty two minutes before the final whistle."
