‘Unplanned construction' at JU protested

Our Correspondent, JU

Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) staged demonstration on the campus yesterday to protest the ‘unplanned development project’ under the mega project of Tk 1445 cores for the further development of the university. Over hundred protesters under the banner of ‘Durnitir Biruddhe Jahangirnagar’ brought out a procession from Social Science Faculty building around 12.30pm and ended at Murad Chattar after parading different streets on the campus. Later, they held a rally there.

At the rally, they demanded the judicial inquiry over the allegation against JU authorities claiming that the authorities has given Tk two cores from the allocation of the mega project to the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

Prof Rayhan Rhyne of JU Philosophy department alleged that the university administration has taken the initiative to construct some unplanned building in the name of development. They have transformed development into trade and turned this university into business place. They vowed to continue the protest until their demands are not met.
