Five-day event to begin at Shilpakala today

A five-day book fair and reading competition on Bangabandhu is set to begin today at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

Marking the National Mourning Day (August 15), Jatiya Grantha Kendra--in association with Cultural Ministry, Bangladesh Publishers & Booksellers’ Association

--is organising the event titled ‘Bangabandhu Bishoyak Pustak Pradarshoni and Paath’ (Book fair and reading on Bangabandhu).

Presided over by Jatiya Grantha Kendra director Minar Mansur, Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, NDC Secretary in Charge, Ministry of Cultural Affairs will inaugurate the book fair today on BSA premises.

After the inauguration, students of Rajuk Uttara Model College will take part in the book reading competition on ‘Asamapta Atmajibani’ (The Unfinished Memoirs), the autobiography by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  Besides, renowned elocutionist Shimul Mustapha will recite poems dedicating to Bangabandhu.

During the five-day competition, students of Narayanganj High School and College, Azimpur Govt Girls School and College, Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College, Biyam School and College will take part.

Editor-in-chief of GTV Syed Ishtiaque Reza, actress Chitra Lekha Guha and Somoy TV director and head of news Tushar Abdullah will attend the competition as judges.

The closing ceremony of the five-day fair and competition will take place at the National Art Plaza of BSA on August 29, where State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid will be present as chief guest.
