Bangladesh volleyball team in Nepal to play Asian CZ meet

Ahead of the SA Games all the teams have already started their training session in full swing when Bangladesh Volleyball Federation has taken incomparable measures to prepare the team well enough before the Games sending the team to Iran for a 25-day conditional camp.

An 18-member team went to Iran on July 21 and had a special training in the Tehran and returned home on August 14. The team has already left for Nepal to participate in the Asian Central Zone (CZ) Volleyball Championship to be held in Katmandu from August 19-24.

A total of nine teams including hosts Nepal will take part in the Central Zone Volleyball championship, besides Bangladesh and the hosts, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan are the other countries will compete in the weeklong nine nations meet.

During their training camp in Tehran, Bangladesh team played eight practice matches against the local sides when they won five and conceded defeats in three matches.

Bangladesh team captain Horosit Biswas when talking to The Independent on Thursday said that they had high performance training camp in Tehran which would boost up them ahead of the SA Games.

Horosit said, “It was very tough training session I had ever did, during our training programme we played their eight matches against some local club teams and Army team, Air Force and Tehran University team, as part of our preparation.”

“We won five matches against the club teams but conceded defeat to the Army, Air Force and Tehran University team.        

“In fact volleyball culture in Iran is very rich, five club teams, we played against all are professional and very strong but the Army, Air Force and University teams are tougher, we fought with them closely,” said Horosit Biswas before leaving  for Katmandu.

Horosit, when evaluated the services team and the Tehran University teams said, “Army, Air Force and the Tehran University teams are stronger than any top team of our South Asian region like Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka, who are higher ranked than us.”           

“We will have another three months training camp before the SA Games, hope, we would go Nepal in SA Games with a full prepared contingent.”

After returned from Nepal, the 25-member team will again practice in Dhaka where they will get another three months to prepare them and finally 12 players will be selected for the SA Games.
