Bodies of two Bangladeshi nationals, who lost their lives in a road accident in Kolkata, arrived in the country in the early hours of yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Kazi Mohammed Mainul Alam, 36, private service holder and dweller of Mirpur, Dhaka and inhabitant of Jhenidah municipality area and Farhana Islam Tania, 28, a banker and dweller of Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
Family members of the deceased received the body at Benapole check post at around 7.30 am yesterday.
The accidents occurred when two cars collided head-on at Shakespeare Sharani leaving the two and several other pedestrians wounded on Saturday. The injured were rushed to SSKM Hospital. The on-duty doctors declared the two as dead. Another Bangladeshi national Kazi Shafiur Rahman Chowdhury Ziyad, brother-in-law of Mainul Alam, was also wounded in the accident.
Police said the deceased went to Kolkata on August 14 for eye-treatment. The accident occurred when they were returning from the doctors’ chamber.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole check post police immigration Abul Bashar said their mortal remains were handed over yesterday morning at the end of immigration formalities between the two countries.
Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata sought information about the accident from the Kolkata police.
