Three more die in Dhaka, Faridpur

Three more patients, including a six-month old, died of dengue yesterday in Dhaka and Faridpur, taking the unofficial death toll close to a hundred. The official data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) says as many as 40 dengue patients have died across the country from January 1 till August 15. A total of 1,460 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours. Among them, 621 patients were admitted in Dhaka, and 839 in divisions outside Dhaka.

Meanwhile, the DGHS said the next seven days would be challenging for dengue control. During a regular briefing on dengue yesterday, Sanya Tahmina, director of disease control of DGHS, said the current weather condition is not suitable for Aedes mosquito control, so the next seven days would be very critical. “We ask everyone to take precaution against mosquitoes,” she said. A total of 51,476 people have so far been affected by dengue. Among those admitted, a total of 43, 589 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment. The DGHS in a press release issued yesterday said the number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals combined was 7,856.

A total of 4,043 patients

were currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas a total of 3,813 people were undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the release said.

In Dhaka, a six-month-old baby died after suffering from the dengue shock syndrome. The child, Ayazur Rahman, died while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Shishu Hospital around 1:25am yesterday.

A total of 11 children, including this infant, have died of dengue at the Shishu Hospital.

Another woman died of dengue at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 11:45pm on Friday.

The deceased, Manwara Begum, 45, wife of Saiful Islam, hailed from Mithamain upazila of Kishoreganj.

In Faridpur, a college student died of dengue while undergoing treatment at the Faridpur Medical College and Hospital (FMCH) on Saturday morning, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Sumon Bashar Raj, 18, son of Mizanur Rahman of Changpur village in Magura district.  He was a second-year student of a government college in Magura.
