Bangladesh ODI Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said that he sees an equal chance of faring well in the upcoming three-match one-day international series for both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

But Mashrafe said that they will go in Sri Lanka to play the series with positive intent and win the series.

“I think both teams are equally favourites,” said Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

“They (Sri Lanka) will play at their home yard, where they always play better cricket. The team they have now played together better cricket. From their places, they are balanced team. They have some sweet memories in World Cup as they beat England and played well in the later part of the big event,” Mashrafe told media in his pre-tour press conference at the Media Block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

“All are in that mindset. Hopefully all will come back by playing better cricket again,” he added.

Along with this, Mashrafe also said the rivalry between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had been created since Nidahas Cup Trophy that will be seen in this short series.

“Between the two teams, there is an excitement that has been created just after the Nidahas Cup Trophy,” he said.

“Sometimes it is counted in the field. I think, it’ll not be easier for any of the teams. Those who will play better cricket in given day will be winners. But I will say that both teams will equally start the series,” he also said.

He said that they have some areas of concern that will be absorbed in a positive way.

“There is always a difference between this type of series and World Cup in terms of its intensity. But as a professional team, we have to absorb all those things. In our context, it’s difficult to think as we have not done well in the World Cup,” Mashrafe said.

“Obviously, we have some areas of concern. But the chances we have come ahead try to bring those towards positive,” he added.

He touted Shakib’s absence as a big loss for the team, saying that they have to fight without him what they have in their disposal.

“Shakib is one of the best performers of the World Cup. Probably he was the best performer. We ought to think about all the sides without him. This time we have to think about three sides. It’s a big loss,” he said.

“At the same time, those who are in the team have to keep our faith on them. And, hopefully they will try to perform their best,” he added.

“We struggle to fill his place while he is not in the team or while he is injured. At a time when he was peak at his form. The team will, of course, miss him while it will be in difficult times,” he said. .

The captain said that they needed to find out the talented players who can take the rudder in the days to come.

“It’s right time to figure out that the best player of the team might be out. How we will handle the situation, who will be back-up of our team in place,” he said.

The first batch of the Bangladesh team led by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will fly to Sri Lanka for the ODI series at 12:45pm today.
