Road link to Bandarban’s Ruma upazila snapped for 12 days

UNB, Bandarban

Road communication between Ruma upazila and the district headquarters remained suspended for 12 days as different portion of the road was damaged due to landslide and torrential rain for the last nine days.

Rumaupazila chairman Uhlamong Marma said numerous cracks and several holes have been developed on Bandarban-Ruma road in Noy Maile, Baro Mile, Doulianpara, Koikhangjhiri areas due to the heavy rain.

Besides, different portion of the road caved in after heavy downpor, creating panic among local people.

The people of the upazila are using boats for going to their destinations. Mohammad Shafique, sub-assistant engineer of Roads and Highways Department, said the authorities concerned are thinking of making an alternative road in the area for resuming the road link.

1st grader ‘raped’ in Jhenidah

A class I student was reportedly raped at Dudhshar village of Shailakupa upazila on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police Ariful Islam said Biplob, a neighbour of the victim, took the child to a field alluring her of giving ice-cream on Thursday afternoon and violated her.

Later, locals rescued the girl and admitted her to Sadar Hospital. Victim’s father filed a case with Shailakupa Police Station accusing two people.

The SP said that they were trying to catch the accused.

BCL leader stabbed in Chuadanga

UNB, Chuadanga

A leader of Chuadanga Government College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was injured in an attack by some miscreants at Jintala Mallikpara in the district town on Thursday. The injured was identified as Shoyeb Rigan.

Quoting witnesses, Abu Jihad, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said 4/5 miscreants swooped on Rigan while he was returning home by a motorbike around 11:30 pm.

They stabbed Rigan indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was taken to Sadar hospital from where the doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

However, the reason behind the attack could not be known immediately.

Principal sentenced for sexual assault on female teacher

BSS, Kushtia

A court yeserterday sentenced principal of a college to 10 years imprisonment and fined Taka one lakh for sexually assaulting a female teacher.

Judge of Kustia Women and Children Repression Prevention Special Court Munsi Md. Mashiar Rahman handed down the verdict against Chowdhury Nuruddin Md. Selim alias Sajal Chowdhury, 52 in his presence.

According to the prosecution, Sajal Chowdhry, principal of Syed Masud Rumi College assaulted a female teacher of the college sexually on March 30, 2014 in the washing room of the college.

The female teacher filed the case under the Section-10 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000 with Kustia Model thana on April 7, 2014.

After investigation police submitted charge sheet against the principal on August 13, 2014.

In default to pay the fine the principal would suffer six months more in jail, the court said.

Boy dies from electrocution

BSS, MADARIPUR

A boy died after being electrocuted at Purbo Botla village under Kalkini upazila of the district recently.

The deceased was Asif Howlader, 14, son of Tofazzel Mia of the village.

Police said Asif came to contact with a live wear at around 12:30 pm when he was working at his house. He was brought at Madaripur Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
