5-day ‘Rajuk Service Week’ begins

UNB, Dhaka

A five-day 'Rajuk Service Week' of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) began on Sunday aiming to provide services to people in an easier and faster way.

Housing and Public Works Secretary Shahid Ullah Khandaker inaugurated the 'Rajuk Service Week' at its head office in the capital.

The secretary asked the Rajuk authorities to be strict in making people abide by relevant rules while constructing building and processing lands. "Intensify your surveillance also to check the violation of the building code."

3 e-gates set up at Dhaka airport

Three electronic gates (e-gate) have been installed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the city as the government is going to launch e-passport within the next month.

 “Distribution of e-passport will start on July 1. We installed three e-gates in the HSIA on trial basis. The immigration officials were imparted training on operating the e-passport gate,” Brigadier General Saidur Rahman

Khan, director of the Introduction of e-Passport, and Automated Border Control Management Project, told newsmen yesterday. The e-gate, however, will be installed gradually at all the airports and land ports across the country, he said. According to Immigration and Passports Department sources, 50 e-gates will be installed in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram international airports and Benapole and Banglabandha land ports.

Waste removal activities inaugurated

BSS, Dhaka

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday said the drive against river enthronement would be continued until the four rivers surrounding the capital Dhaka are freed.

 “No mercy will be shown against river encroachers. Steps will also be taken against those will obstruct the drives against encroachment,” he said while inaugurating waste removal activities at the riverbanks of Turag at Abdullahpur in the city. He said: “We cannot show our different historical establishments to foreigners due to pollution of the river Buriganga.”

Two-day gold fair kicks off

BSS, Rangpur

A two-day Gold Fair-2019 began yesterday at Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) auditorium aiming to promote gold traders in the region.

Rangpur Zonal Tax Commissioner’s Office is arranging the fair to give opportunity to jewelry and gold traders in whitening undeclared gold and gold ornaments.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa inaugurated the fair at a function as the chief guest with Tax Commissioner of Rangpur Zone Md. Abdul Latif in the chair. Zonal Tax Commissioner’s Office, Divisional Commissionerate of Customs and Excise and VAT and two commercial banks have set up six stalls there to provide services to traders for whitening undeclared precious metals and ornaments.

5,816 cases over traffic rule violations in capital

BSS, Dhaka

The traffic division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has filed a total 5,816 cases over traffic violations in the capital on Friday. “Police realised Taka 26, 62,950 as fine from the traffic offenders. Police also sent 22 vehicles to dumping and 535 more to wrecking,” a DMP release said here yesterday. The DMP sources further said cases were filed against 1,087 vehicles for going into wrong way, 115 vehicles for using hydraulic horns, three for using hooters and beacon light and eight vehicles were booked for using black glasses on windows.
