HC wants list of vacant physician posts in prisons

UNB, Dhaka

The High Court on Sunday asked the inspector general (IG) of prisons to submit the list of vacant post of physicians at all prisons across the country within six weeks.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasn and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order following a petition.

The HC also wants to know the receptivity of the accused in prisons, number of prisoners and physicians of the prisons across the country. Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan stood for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar represented the state. The HC also issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why the ineffectiveness of the authorities concerned to ensure the standard accommodation for the prisoners should not be declared illegal. Besides, it also issued another rule asking the government to explain as to why the inability of the authorities concerned to fill the vacant posts of the physicians to ensure medical services to the prisoners should not be declared illegal.

HC wants to know steps taken over death

in Mediterranean

The High Court (HC) yesterday asked authorities concerned to inform court in a week about steps taken against the people and companies involved in human trafficking which led to the deaths of 37 Bangladeshis in the Mediterranean recently.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order as it kept the matter stand over for a week.

The court came up with the order after holding hearing on a writ filed by lawyer Mohammad Emdadul Haque Sumon. The petitioner in his writ pleaded for court’s direction in giving Taka one crore to each families of the victims and steps against the accused. “The court wanted to know about the steps taken against the people involved in human trafficking.

Arrest warrant issued against singer Mila

BSS, Dhaka

A Dhaka court has issued warrant to arrest singer Mila Islam as she did not turn up to testify in the case she lodged against her former husband Pervej Sanjari alias Lelin.

Judge Md Sharif Uddin of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 passed the order yesterday.

Mila filed the case against Sanjari under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in 2017 and the court in 2018 framed charges against him. Sanjari however, refused all the allegations brought against him and filed a case against Mila on May 20 for spreading propaganda on social media and defaming him. Parvez Sanjari lodged the case under Digital Security Act.
