An array of over 400 books on liberation war of Bangladesh, its history and heritage of different publications are being showcased and sold on a vehicle with the name ‘Liberation War Mobile Book Fair’. The Mobile Book Fair, started in December last, has already visited some 20 districts across the country including different educational institutions and has achieved huge response.

Now the Mobile Book Fair with the theme ‘Itihas Dhorbo Tule, Boi Jabe Trinomule’ is visiting different media houses both print and electronic in the capital where people from all walks of life can browse the books and buy it at cheaper price.

Mobile Book Fair yesterday opened its shutter with huge collection of books in front of the Beximco Media Complex in the capital. It was inaugurated by Executive Editor of The Independent Shamim Abdullah Zahedy. Chief News Editor of Independent TV Asish Saikat, Independent Head New Media Golam Kibria and Special Affairs Editor of Independent TV Zahid Hossain were present on the occasion.

Appreciating the move, Shamim Abdullah said, “Such event is necessary to reach out books at people’s doorsteps. Though it’s an age of e-books but the paper print books will also survive.”

“We should buy books. If we have books in our houses, children will start learning by browsing and seeing the books. A reading habit will generate among the young generation,” he continued.  Asish Saikat said, “It’s a good initiative. It helps to get a huge collection of books on a particular theme. Our young generation gets more knowledge on foreign affairs through technology but they have little knowledge on Liberation War. If we have books at home, a reading habit will create.”  He also suggested that such move should also be reached to the English medium schools to spread the knowledge of Liberation war.  Golam Kibria said, “This move will help the readers living in countryside where it is difficult to get such creative books.”

The brainchild of the Mobile Book Fair Rohin Ahsan said, “It’s a subject based book fair to uphold the Liberation War, history and heritage of Bangladesh. We have already visited 20 districts with a huge response. We will move the whole country gradually.”   “It’s a huge collection on Liberation related books. We want to carry the mobile book fair dedicated to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Mawlana Bhashani, Tajuddin Ahmed and other big leaders to spread the knowledge about them among people,” he added.

“We should impart the reading habit among our children to save them from the addiction on mobile phones. We want our children should know the correct history of Liberation War,” Ahsan, who is also the publisher of Shrabon Publication, said.  The Mobile Book Fair is also equipped with TV monitor which displays history of Bangladesh and Bangabandhu.  Readers can buy books at a discount of 20 per cent of different publication while books of Shrabon Publication are being sold at a discount of 40 per cent.”
