Two foreign theatre productions, titled ‘Oh My Sweet Land’ by Théâtre de Vidy-Lausanne and Young Vic London (France) and ‘Macbeth’ by Chorus Repertory Theatre (India), will be staged today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. The plays will be staged at the BSA’s Experimental Theatre Hall (5pm) and National Theatre Hall (7pm) respectively.

The plays will be brought to the stage on the second day of the ongoing weeklong ‘Bangladesh International Theatre Festival’.

Written and performed by Corinne Jaber, the theatrical play ‘Oh My Sweet Land’ has been directed by Amir Nizar Zuabi. Nicolas Chorier is the technical director and lighting designer of the play.

The play depicts the state of the humanitarian crisis in Syria and beyond through the eyes of a half-Syrian, Paris-dwelling woman.

The woman flees to the Middle East in pursuit of her refugee activist lover, Ashraf. During her search, she encounters the abandoned Syrians who have become silent bearers of the cruelty of the war.

On the other hand, William Shakespeare’s masterpiece tragedy ‘Macbeth’ will be staged by Chorus Repertory Theatre in Manipuri language. The play has been directed by Ratan Thiyam.

With an aim to promote and expand the theatrical productions worldwide, Cultural Ministry, in association with BSA and International Theatre Unit, is organising the festival. Besides, the event is supported by the Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation.

The mass audiences can enjoy the festival through an online registration, which is free of cost. For registration, the audience have to visit www.internationaltheatrefestbd.com.
