Cricket Carnival for U-12 youth cricketers

Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) opened up a new window for the school students coupled with the interested children to formally provide them with the basic skills of crickets through the arrangement of the carnival like competition at the grassroot level since the last three years.

This year the board has decided to kick-start the week-long-cricket Tournament of the BCB Under-12 Cricket Carnival-2019 across the country, the meet which will be rolled onto the ground at different 64 districts along with Dhaka Metro’s five venues on June 20.

Meanwhile, all the districts sports associations (DSA) all over the country have been given directives from the BCB to take necessary steps from selecting the proper children and formation their respective team for the meet.

To make the competition ‘festive and gorgeous’, the board already dispatched cash money (Tk25,000) alongside 35 t-shirts and 35 caps to each DSA-local organisers of the country’s cricket.

A total of 32 school children (boys snd girls) aged 12 or below to be identified in each district preferably from schools to participate in the Young Tigers National School Cricket Competition later on.

The selected players (maximum 15) will then be sorted out from the cricket carnival for a week-long training camp at district level.

Length of each innings will be 12 overs, where batsmen of each team will bat in pair, who will get opportunity to bat for three full overs but each member of the fielding side could bowl minimum one over.

Match will be played with the soft ball where LBW dismissals are discouraged but players are encouraged to bowl legal deliveries though throwing should be overlooked.

Regarding the competition, BCB Games Development Kamrul Hasan told The Independent that they have been hosting the programme to create interest and awareness of cricket among children, parents, teachers at school level across the country since last three years.

“Behind hosting the tournament, one thing works in our mind is that Children are encouraged further towards cricket to play under the banner of the BCB,” Kamrul Hasan said.

“Their introduction will be happened with the basic skills of cricket that will ultimately encourage other children for their active participation beside them. As a result, overall cricket will be benefited from it,” Hasan told this reporter at his BCB office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
