National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque stressed on formation of Child Commission for protecting the rights of the children, who comprise about 40 percent of the country’s total population.
He also stressed the need to establish separate Child Directorate to ensure the rights of children and called the authorities concerned to take proper steps for making the commission and the directorate for upholding those rights. Terming the children as the country’s future, he said, if we fail to properly build them up, our future will be at stake.
He made the remarks while addressing a national level consultation titled ‘Elimination of Child Labour’ at CIRDAP conference room in the capital yesterday. INCIDIN Bangladesh organised the programme with support from TdH Netherlands.
The NHRC chief called for proper coordination between the government and the civil society for making a child-friendly society, including achieving the goal of total elimination of child labour from the country by 2025.
Stressing on child specific budget, he said that it would help establish the rights of the children as well as achieve SDG goal.
