Minor girl ‘raped’ in Cumilla

UNB, Cumilla

A minor girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour at Hugulia village in Daudkandi upazila on Sunday.

The alleged rapist was identified as Sheikh Farid, 50, son of late Fazar Ali of Hugulia village.

Officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station Md Rafiqul Islam said Farid picked the victim up from their courtyard and took her to an isolated place where he raped her.

Locals rescued the victim after hearing her screams and informed police. She was taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital for medical test, he said, adding that they were trying to arrest the alleged rapist.

Man held with ‘2.3kg heroin’

UNB, Rajshahi

 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members detained a man reportedly along with 2.3 kg heroin in Tanore upazila on Monday.

The detainee is Qaiyum Ali, 51, son of Rostam Ali of Kurujghat Kacharipara in the upazila.

A team of Rajshahi Mollapara camp of RAB-5 conducted a drive at Qaiyum’s house around 2:30am and detained him.

Later, they recovered heroin from his house.

Qaiyum was handed over to police and a case was filed with Tanore Police Station against him.

Traffic Zone Inspector on remand

UNB, Chattogram

 A court here on Monday placed Siddiqur Rahman, a Traffic Zone Inspector who was arrested with yaba from city’s Agrabad area on Friday, on two-day remand in a case.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Mehnaz Rahman passed the order following a petition filed by police.

Rasib Khan, sub-inspector of Counter Terrorism Unit sought five-day remand for Siddiqur on Sunday.

On Friday, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Counter Terrorism Unit in a joint drive arrested Siddiqur Rahman, (town sub-inspector) from city’s Agrabad area and recovered 10,000 yaba and Tk 80,000 in cash from his possession.

Woman found dead

UNB, Keraniganj

 

An elderly woman was found dead at a cabin of a launch at Sadarghat Launch Terminal on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Nilufa, 60, wife of Mozammel Haque of Hadi Nasirkot village in Chandpur district.

Rezaul Karim Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station, said the launch, ‘MV Mitali-7’, reached the terminal around 7am from Chandpur.

Cleaners noticed the body of Nilufa at cabin-309 of the launch around 8:30am and informed police of it.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police suspected that the woman was strangulated to death.

6 muggers arrested  in capital

BSS, Dhaka

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 6 suspected robbers of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) autorickshaws from different areas of the city.

Assistant Director (Legal and Media Wing) of RAB M Mizanur Rahman told media “The suspects were arrested when a RAB-4 team conducted raids in Darusalam, Demra and Dakhinkhan of the city from 8:00pm on Sunday to Monday morning.”

Addressing a press briefing at Kawranbazar, Commanding Officer of RAB-4 Additional DIG Manzurul Kabir said the CNG muggers snatched CNG three wheelers adopting different strategies and realized large sums of money from the CNG owners.
