16-POINT DEMAND

Buet students continue demonstration

Correspondent, DU

Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) yesterday continued their protest for the fourth day on a 16-point demand. They have boycotted all the academic activities and have locked up the administrative building and the office of the university’s Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Saidur Rahman. They began the protest around 11am, blocked the road near the Buet campus, and staged a sit-in near the Central Shaheed Minar till 2:30pm.

The students have been protesting since Saturday, to implement their 16-point demand that includes: formation of a special committee comprising teachers of civil engineering and architecture departments to build Buet gate, recruiting a directorate of student welfare through an upstanding recruitment process, renaming the only female residence hall, improving the residence hall living standards, introducing teacher evaluation system, digitalising students’ payment process and increasing allocation in research, among others.

The students launched fresh demo yesterday as deadline set by the students to fulfill the demands was over on Monday. The students have boycotted all classes and educational activities since Saturday.

The protesting student said they will continue to boycott classes if their demands are not met.
